CSR Today

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has evolved beyond mere “Corporate Philanthropy” as it was understood in the past. In today's economic and social environment, issues related to social responsibility and sustainability are gaining more and more importance, both in public and private sectors. Organisational goals are inseparable from the societies and environments within which they operate. Whilst short-term economic gain can be pursued, the failure to take pro-active measures to access longer-term social and environmental impacts makes those organisations vulnerable to a wide range of risks therefore unsustainable. CSR can be understood as a management concept and a process that integrates social and environmental concerns in business operations and an organisation’s interactions with the full range of its stakeholders thereby creating shared stakeholder value. Though known with different terms, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, etc, it is however sustainability efforts that focuses on the ethical practices in the business and the responsiveness of an organisation to its stakeholders and the environment in which it operates.
